Wheelchair Attendant

Helps elderly pilgrims and people with disabilities perform tawaf and sa'i and move around the holy places in a wheelchair, safely and with care.

Main duties

  • Push wheelchairs for pilgrims during tawaf and sa'i, and between the gates and prayer areas.
  • Help pilgrims sit down in and get up from the wheelchair safely.
  • Follow the designated routes and crowd-management instructions.
  • Check that wheelchairs are clean and in good working order.
  • Carry the official permit and charge only the approved rates.

Requirements

  • Physically fit and able to walk long distances.
  • Patience and courtesy with elderly and unwell pilgrims.
  • Basic Arabic; other languages such as Urdu, English or Indonesian are an advantage.
  • Knowing the layout and routes of the holy places is an advantage.

Work environment

  • Long periods of walking in crowds, day and night.
  • Morning, evening and night shifts.
